…who are we, who is any of us, but a combination of experiences, information, readings, imagination? Every life is an encyclopedia, a library, an inventory of objects, an index of styles, where everything can be continuously mixed, combined, shuffled and reorganised in many different and possible ways…
Italo Calvino: Six Memos
Italo Calvino: Ameri ka predavanja / American lectures; Bratstvo i jedinstvo, Novi sad, 1989, p. 133 (translated from Croatian by Branka Benčić)
Culture Liverpool, alongside the CreArt Network of European Cities, is proud to host the forthcoming Six Memos exhibition, comprising European contemporary artists celebrating the works of late Italian novelist Italo Calvino.
Housed within the resplendent St George’s Hall, twenty artists from the CreArt Network selected by Curator Branka Benčić will see their works displayed in the unique surroundings of The Bridge Gallery, which can be found as you make your way through the recently discovered catacombs of the hall.
Shaped by Calvino’s essays bearing the titles of Lightness, Quickness, Exactitude, Visibility, Multiplicity and Consistency, the exhibition will draw on different media such as photography, video, drawing, painting, objects, installation and text.
The participating artists focus their interests and examine the notions of landscape, changing nature, human condition, relations of subjects and objects, artistic production itself, materiality, identity and memory.
Open from Friday 11 January until Sunday 24 February 2019, we look forward to showcasing the works of Adam Lee (Liverpool), Albano Leal Ribeiro (Aveiro), Alice Pouzet (Clermont-Ferrand), Arnaud Caquelard (Rouen), Cristina R. Vecino (Valladolid), Esther Gatón (Valladolid), Fabio Tasso (Genoa), Garance Alves (Clermont-Ferrand), Hristina Ivanoska (Skopje), Laura Robertson(Liverpool), Luca Arboccò (Genoa), Ludomir Franczak (Lublin), Magdalena Franczak (Lublin), Pranas Griušys (Kaunas), Ricardo Suárez (Valladolid), Sébastien Camboulive (Rouen), Tjaša Kalkan (Zagreb), Yane Calovski (Skopje), Zlatko Kopljar (Zagreb).
