The “Urban Adventure” exhibition at RIBA North shows examples from Liverpool University School of Architecture’s fourth year MArch programme. The project was run in consultation with the Princes Trust to design an activity area within the City for use by young people.

The ‘Urban Adventure’ exhibition at RIBA North shows examples from Liverpool University School of Architecture’s fourth year MArch programme. The project was run in consultation with the Princes Trust to design an activity area within the City for use by young people.
The idea of the ‘Urban Adventure’ is to design a centre within the City which will provide a place for exploration and training. The intention is to create an environment where young people are taken out of their comfort zone.
The centre provides a variety of inside and outside activity area, including a climbing wall, where people can meet, explore new skills, and be challenged both physically and mentally.
Two Liverpool site options were available for this project, Site 1 between Renshaw Street and Bold Street and Site 2 adjacent to the rail line close to Brunswick Station. Both these sites have a ‘hidden’ element and provide an opportunity for vertical exploration.
For the first seven weeks of the project students worked individually to develop their own design proposals. For the final five weeks, Students form into groups of three or four people to develop just one of the proposals technically in more detail.
Group working allows students to achieve much more as a team than would have been the case individually and, of course, reflects the real world in Practice.
