Led by artist Eimear Kavanagh, this three hour workshop will give you the opportunity to learn or recap basic techniques to help you draw from observation, try different materials and express what you see through drawing, all in the inspiring surroundings of the Sefton Park Palm House.

Program

If you enjoy drawing, would like to work on your skills or even if you’ve not done much drawing from observation before and just want to have a go, this workshop will inspire you and maybe even help you discover a hidden talent! Observational drawing is about really looking at the world and what better place to start than the Sefton Park Palm House. This three hour workshop gives you the opportunity to learn some basic techniques to help you draw from observation, try some different materials and express what you see through drawing. The workshop is open to people of all ages and levels of experience.

The day will include:

  • Short introduction about drawing from observation, what to expect from the workshop and some examples of work by relevant artists for some inspiration.
  • Introduction to and exercises around measuring
  • Different drawing techniques, e.g. using line only, using tone only, cross hatching, drawing with a rubber.
  • Experimenting with different materials, papers and scales.
  • Group feedback and discussion.

Tutor: Eimear Kavanagh

Born in Ireland in 1973, Eimear studied BA Hons in Textiles and Surface Pattern Design at Bretton Hall University of Leeds, graduating in 1999. Based in Liverpool, Eimear works as a mixed media artist with a varied wealth of experience in the arts. Her body of work and previous commissions have taken her to India, Australia and back to Ireland. She has worked within fashion, public street art, textiles, illustration, album cover design; stage set design, tattoo art, schools education & community workshops. Eimear is currently working on illustrating a book and developing an artistic exchange project between Liverpool and Cork.

Materials

Please bring along a sketchbook, pencils, eraser and sharpener. We will supply a range of other materials with which you will be able to experiment.

  • There are a maximum of 15 places available on the course, so early booking is essential.

Cancellations / Refunds

Once you have made your course booking your are committed to it. This is because our courses have very small student numbers, and often sell-out and are unavailable to others. Therefore any cancellations may result in a place not being filled, or a course not being able to run.

Cancellations are permitted up to six weeks before the start of a course, and a full refund will be issued. Refunds will not be made for cancellations less than six weeks before the start of a course. If you are unable to attend due to illness, personal or professional commitments you do not have the right to a refund.

If you wish to cancel your place on a course that has not yet started and you have a friend or colleague who can take your place we can accommodate this substitution.
