3 JUNE 2017

A Day of Independent Publishing

Join DIY zine-makers, publishers and photographers at Open Eye Gallery on Saturday 3rd June, 11am-6pm, for an all-day event celebrating underground publications.

Browse the stalls, get involved with workshops, and meet the publishers, photographers and writers driving grassroots bookmaking forward.

There’ll be zines to browse and buy from Fistful of Books (Liverpool), Jacqui McAssey (Liverpool), Carbon Copy Press (Manchester), Henry Press (Manchester), Tide Press (Manchester), Glassball (currently working in Skelmersdale), and Gravy Photographic (showcasing Northern Talent). All the publishers will be present.

There’ll also be a huge selection of self-published, local artists books for sale from the Open Eye Gallery bookshop, plus newly featured works from our Photobook Open Call.

Light refreshments will be available, and Open Eye Gallery will be running a photography tombola.

There will also be a series of events throughout the day.

Workshop 1: Pinhole photography

Get back to photography’s roots.

Chris Huffee designs beautiful wooden pinhole camera kits, laser-cut at DoES Liverpool. The DIY camera kits are available to buy at Open Eye Gallery. Chris Huffee will guide you through building one of his pinhole cameras, and taking a photograph.

£35 (includes pinhole camera to take away).

Workshop 2: Photobook dummy reviews.

Richard Page is the programme leader of Manchester Metropolitan University’s BA (Hons) Photography course. He’ll be running sessions for independent publishers, reviewing book designs and concepts. He is a Jerwood Photography Award winner, and his work has been featured in The Guardian, Portfolio Magazine and Art Review.

Find us in the Atrium outside Open Eye Gallery, 19 Mann Island, Liverpool Waterfront, L3 1BP.
