Venue: Open Eye Gallery
Times: 18:00 - 20:00
Join us to launch LOOK Photo Biennial 2019 at Open Eye Gallery.
Focusing on exchange with China, LOOK Photo Biennial 2019 uses the evolving language of photography to unlock international dialogue. Staged across Liverpool, The Wirral and Shanghai, the programme — put together by Open Eye Gallery — sets out to bring different cultures into conversation.
At the centre of the biennial is PEER TO PEER at Open Eye Gallery, a major new exhibition bringing together 14 rising artists from the UK and China, selected by 14 leading curators around the world. PEER TO PEER sets out to reflect on shifting global identities, worldwide environmental issues and how we can use images to communicate effectively: across borders, technologies and cultures.
PEER TO PEER Artists: Anna Ridler, Yan Wang Preston, Maisie Cousins, Othello De’Souza Hartley, Jonny Briggs, Mandy Barker, Sian Davey, Alix Marie, Sun Yanchu, Jiang Pengyi, Wu Yue, Fan Xi, Qin Yifeng and Chen Zhe.
Also on show at Open Eye Gallery is a new project from Karen Knorr and Anna Fox. Working with ‘Fast Forward: Women in Photography’, they have been mentoring emerging Chinese photographers who are women. Fox and Knorr will be curating a new show from the body of work produced throughout the programme, shown in large scale in Mann Island Winter Garden, outside Open Eye Gallery.
After the exhibition launch, we’ll be having a free afterparty at Constellations: all are welcome. We’ll also be launching ‘JUMP!’, a new show at The Liverpool Gallery on Stanhope Street, curated by Sian Bonnell. It’s open from 1930, and as always all are welcome.
PEER TO PEER is produced in partnership with University of Salford Art Collection and Connections Through Culture (British Council).
