Liverpool’s Visual Artists Prepare For Multi-Venue Showcase at Threshold 2016
Over 40 of the region’s finest visual artists will take part in Threshold Festival’s multi-venue range of exhibitions across Liverpool.
The 2016 Visual Arts Programme for the festival is entitled “Alchemy: Materials & Transformation” and will feature in 9 venues across the city’s thriving Baltic Triangle, with a huge range of art styles set to be showcased on Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd April 2016.
The main Visual Art hub will be The Gallery Liverpool [Stanhope Street] but the exhibition will continue across established venues and emerging spaces in the Baltic. In a first for Threshold, organisers have also invited guest curators to contribute to the arts programme. These include artist-led organisation TPA [Trans Pennine Arts] who will be collaborating with Liverpool-based Muesli to curate one of the festival’s new exhibition spaces: Fünf.
Other artists on the bill include James Bowman [Wirral Metropolitan College], Wendy Williams [Alternator Studio], Douglas McCormick [University of Chester], Ruth Dillon [Road Studios], Joseph Cotgrave [Royal Standard] and Meg Brain. The exhibitions will feature explorations of Alchemy, alchemical symbolism and the mysterious arts of transmutation.
Artists will also explore the versatility and changeable nature of materials, with broad interpretations. The exhibition will feature a wide range of art forms including photography, painting and illustration, sculpture, mixed media installation, performance art and works that will develop and change throughout the festival. Staying true to Threshold’s multi-arts roots, the exhibition will be integrated into venues where other performances are taking place and performances will be weaved into the gallery spaces in a true blend of contemporary art forms.
Visual Arts Curator, Jazamin Sinclair said “We have over 25 people working together in our visual arts team to curate, plan, install & pull together our full exhibition programme this year. All the ideas and planning means that things are now really starting to take shape and we are really looking forward to working together with the artists to install the exhibitions across the 9 venues!”
