A packed programme including a live AV set by Sandi Hughes and Re-Dock, spoken word artistry from Writing on the Wall, a ten-year retrospective from North End Writers, a Silent Disco (Silent Disco TBC ) and a workshop from Brouhaha plus special performances from Southport Strings, In Harmony, The Holy Ground, Black Entrails and more. Also includes a BBQ on the café terrace.

North End Writers: 10 Years On, 17:00 – 19:00

The grass-roots creative writing charity, North End Writers, celebrates 10 years with readings that incorporate their anniversary and respond to the theme of Time.  Readings include work from various publications of North End Press including The Accent (2007) magazine through to poems and short fiction from the innovative writing and well-being projects Living Room,  Writing Well-Writing Green, Liverpool Elegies, Poet-in-Residence project (Mersey Care) and writing and heritage project 100 Pictures-100 Pages.  

The celebration also brings together members of the North End Writers Community group and Mossley Hill Writing group as well as professional writers who have contributed to the charity’s first ten years.

Dancing Through the Ages 18:00, 19:15 & 20:15
Take a 10 minute journey with Sophie Taylor and others through the decades of dance in musicals. All your favourites performed within a microcosm of time, choreographed by Andrew McKay.

A graduate of LIPA, Andrew is a local performer and creative and recently choreographed ‘Shout! The Mod Musical’ at the Liverpool Royal Court Theatre. Sophie Taylor, a graduate of Merseyside Dance & Drama Centre, has worked across the North of England and was a performer during the build up for the Olympics in London.

A performance of newly composed and specially selected pieces by Liverpool-based composers and musicians around the notion of Time; exploring the experience of listening, the memory of melodies, cultural interpretation of time and its relation to scientific definition.

Made Invaders: Race against the Aliens! 20:00 – 22:00

A live action arcade style computer game in life size! With 15 light up animated sprite targets ready to test your skills. Play alone, or as a team competing for the highest score of the night.

Scottie Road Writers, 20:00 – 22:00

Scottie Road Writers will once again entertain and enthral all visitors who would like to take a little time-out. Hear a collection of stories based around the theme of Time, read by the authors and invited readers. Join in for a couple of hours of murder, mirth and magical imaginings.

Liverpool Sings, 21:00 – 22:00
Do you love to sing? Join this new initiative spearheaded by Sense of Sound’s Jennifer John and learn a new a cappella song with lots of uplifting harmonies in celebration of collective voices. Whether an experienced singer or someone who is new to singing, all are invited to join in. There’s no time like the present!

Step backwards and forwards in musical time with popular festival regulars Southport Strings Youth Orchestra.

Performances by Alandalus dance company exploring the traditions of flamenco as an art form through the centuries.

Search for the clock and cog related art work around the library and solve time-related clues to win one of the pictures and a voucher for afternoon tea for two in the library café. There’s 10 in total, so pick up a sheet from the Library reception and get hunting!

Emily Dickinson and the Trap of Time, 19:00 – 20:00

The Black Entrails put the poems of Emily Dickinson to music; taking various elements of avant-garde music and transposing it into a new style which encompasses medieval music, musique concrete and even shades of indie and world music too.

Harmonic Half Hour, 20:00 – 21:00

Young musicians from Liverpool Philharmonic’s In Harmony programme explore the connections between time and music with some of their favourite pieces.

Traditional folk music focusing on time from local duo Harper-Dunwoody.

Step up to the mic for a specular evening of poetry and spoken word art exploring Liverpool’s past, present and future with Writing on the Wall. Hosted by Pangaea International Slam winner 2015 Ciarán Hodgers and featuring an exhibition of the library’s amazing archives, there’s something for everyone.

Made Invaders – Race against the Aliens! 20:00 – 22:00

Made Invaders is a live action arcade style computer game only life size! With 15 light up, animated sprite targets stand ready for you to test your skills. Using foam dart guns see how many targets you can hit in in 30 seconds to get the highest score for the night.

Using mainly Arduino-compatibles and Raspberry Pi’s this is a perfect example of what can be achieved by the maker community and the type of technology that’s now accessible to everyone, to create their own imaginative project.

Time for Carnival, 20:00 – 22:00

Explore the tradition of carnival in these hands on workshops from Brouhaha International. Come and make your own Carnival costume or headdress. All ages welcome!

Rewind Fast Forward, 20:00 – 22:00

From DJ to VJ, film-maker Sandi Hughes and Sam Meech of Re-Dock perform a live AV set remixing footage from Sandi’s own archive of films of Liverpool’s queer scene and black communities in the 1970s and 80s that is then projection mapped onto the iconic and much loved brick tiles on the first floor, creating a rich audiovisual collage.

Holy Ground, 20:15 – 22:15

Time is an aspect of our lives we all take for granted. The Holy Ground follows a 1950s couple’s journey from the rural west coast of Ireland to the city suburbs of Liverpool in search of work and a better life; experienced through live music, hanging placards and pre-recorded, audio-only verbatim narrative.

This piece is constructed from personal family stories, interviews from the Liverpool Irish Centre and the local Irish community.
