The result of a collaboration between set designer Alexandra Morton and performance artist Raphaella Davies, this humorous, time-based performance draws on Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days, exploring our familiar preoccupation with rites of passage through the performers’ humorous self-reflection.
Pushed to its limits, the Surtsey Projects space is transformed into an immersive stage with a multitude of materials, striking experimental lighting and a moveable set. As Buildings Roman examines and deconstructs the devices of theatre and performance, the audience are invited to enter the space to soak up the atmosphere and influence the performers’ path.
Surtsey Projects is an independent project space, set up by artists Lily Mellor, Devon Forrester-Jones and Laura Rushton to offer opportunities for local emerging creatives and to create links between artistic communities across the city.
