Introducing an exciting new collaboration between Kirkby Gallery and Knowsley Safari, providing a range of free virtual creative learning sessions for schools and individuals, combining art and the natural world…

Kirkby Gallery has teamed up with Knowsley Safari to create Art in the Park –  a new series of online classes led by professional artists and supported by live and pre-recorded content from Safari experts and the Gallery team.

Live streamed from the Safari, the outdoors-inspired sessions will take place in February 2021, with options for individuals and schools. All are free to book.

For Individuals:

Staffin’ the Safari, led by documentary artist and printmaker Julia Midgley looking at how keepers and animals work together for the benefit of wellbeing and conservation: four weekly sessions at 10am from February 1st.

Revisioning the Rhino
, led by printmaker and former lecturer, Anthony Ratcliffe. Inspired by 16th Century artist, Albrecht Dürer, explore the idea of his rhinocerous woodcut with contemporary associations: four weekly sessions at 10am from February 2nd.

For Schools, KS2 & KS3:

Getting Under the Skin, four linked sessions led by Knowsley artist and tutor Patricia McDonald-Holmes, will focus on the nature and habitat of a selection of animals at the Safari: Monday 8th, 15th & 22nd March and 12th April with morning or afternoon sessions available.

Safari Scribblers, four linked sessions led by published writer Johanna Robinson, will see children take part in creative writing exercises inspired by visitors’ perceptions of the Safari: Tuesday 9th, 16th & 23rd March and 13th April with morning or afternoon sessions available.

The first three lots of sessions take place in the spring term, with the fourth and final session in the summer term. There will be the opportunity in the final session of each for a Q&A where your class can interact live with the artists and Safari staff.

Every week during lockdown, we focus on a different exhibition from Kirkby Gallery & Prescot Museum’s back catalogue and share posts on our social media and website, but next week we will be focusing on the Artists in the Park instead!

From 19th to 22nd January, there will be a different post each day about the Artists – find out who they are, and what they create! Click on the links below to our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts and also our website.
