Be the first to see our new April 2024 exhibition – Julia Midgley: Drawing a Record.

Julia is a printmaker and reportage artist, whose drawings have recorded society at large over decades; illustrating her observations on location. By acting as a fly on the wall, events are recorded as they take place in Julia’s sketchbooks, She does not use a camera, preferring to draw live action directly onto paper.

Julia’s diverse commissions have included drawing a kidney transplant between Mother and Son, witnessing the excavation of skeletons at Stonehenge and drawing surgeons on board a military helicopter.

For the 2002 Biennial she made drawings of life in and around Huyton Village, and in 2021 Julia returned to Knowsley as part of Art in the Park: a collaborative, lockdown project between Knowsley’s Culture Service and Knowsley Safari. In 2022, Julia was involved in Kirkbyography as part of Knowsley Borough of Culture.

The works on show at this exhibition focus on Julia’s projects in Knowsley and the Liverpool City Region.

Teachers and school staff are invited to meet Julia at our Teacher First Behind the Scenes Walk and Talk. See the resources and activities your pupils could enjoy and book your self-led class visit before spaces get filled up!
