Anthony Ratcliffe: Of Time and Tide
Kirkby Gallery, 9 September – 14 December 2024
Of Time and Tide is a stunning new exhibition by artist and printmaker Anthony Ratcliffe, consisting of recent commissions and projects looking at remote British Landscape from mountain top to shoreline.
Anthony’s work extends geographically from Shetland, Northwest Scotland, Cumbria, North York Dales and Moors, Dark Peak and the Mersey estuary. Shipwrecks, abandoned fishing stations, tree forms, island shorelines, watercourses and mine workings are captured in watercolours, woodcut prints and artists books, alongside displays of supporting material and sketchbooks.
After researching and visiting Formby, Crosby and Ainsdale, Anthony became interested in the shipwreck remains which appear at low tide, known as the mussel wrecks, the reappearance of the remains of Harrington Barracks at Formby and the blitz beach at Crosby, offering a regional focus to his show in Kirkby.
If you would like to attend the Private View on Thursday 5 September, please RSVP to Tina Ball by Friday 30 August. Capacity is limited so please let us know as soon as possible.
