The panel will reflect on and discuss the repositioning of knowledge of those with lived-experience of the UK Justice System, as well as decision makers. Speakers include artist Hwa Young Jung, who collaborated with a group of men on probation for her project Probationary (2017); artist and educator Melanie Crean, whose ongoing project involves collaboration with imprisoned veterans and staff members at HMP Altcourse, currently displayed as part of On the Other Side at FACT; and Andrew Neilson, Director of Campaigns for The Howard League for Penal Reform.

Moderating the panel is FACT’s Learning Manager, Lucía Arias, who has led on the development of Resolution—a multi-year project examining how art can influence public attitudes and decision-making within the justice system—alongside FACT’s Learning team.

For this event, we’re delighted to share, for the first time, Melanie Crean’s publication crafted as part of her work with FACT, detailing the methodologies used in the production of A Machine to Unmake You (M2UY) (2019-2024). Every attendee of this event will receive a copy of the publication to take away.
