Constellations: Square Pegs’ FESTIVal
Times: 11:00 - 17:00
Saturday 12 December 2015, 11.00 – 17.00
Bring your child’s creativity out of hibernation this winter for a second helping of Square Pegs’ feast for the imagination. The Pegs, along with the guys from everyone’s favourite Baltic warehouse, Constellations have been working like elves since their last event to put together an act that will do more than entertain: little ones become immersed in a magical world where individuality triumphs and wonders never cease.
The collaboration will be bringing a host of local artists and creatives together to deliver high-quality one of a kind Christmas-inspired workshops and activities for children aged 2-12. From crafts to performance, circus skills to frosty forest garden trails – whatever your child’s artistic preference they’ve got it covered.
Turn words into sculpture with Kate Bufton, local artist and sculptor, who will be running workshops, turning unloved books into works of art.
Transform feathers into festive crowns and sticks into wands with imaginative Christmas craft workshops.
Join the Pegs as they experiment with abstract art, creating geometric designs for alternative tree decoration.
Keep little ones active and the winter chills at bay with their breakdancing sessions for little b-boys and girls.
Create rhythmic beats using traditional bongo drums, and electronic sound from everyday objects, in Square Pegs’ structured workshops for the musicians of tomorrow, run by local producer and DJ SertOne.
Listen to not-your-average child-friendly Christmas soundtrack with ‘The Turntables Might Wobble’.
Join Liverpool’s Free Fall Circus and make full use of their range of apparatus to keep the dare devils stimulated; think bigger and better!
Practise printmaking with Liverpool’s favourite print-making duo The Paper Moon, who return to show little ones how to make next-level festive fridge art.
Even toddlers will be catered for in Square Pegs’ sensory play zone.
If you tire of the endless red suits this time of year brings, as an alternative to Santa’s grotto, wrap up warm for a garden winter woodland trail and step through the firs into a Narnia-inspired real forest! Smell the pines follow the clues and who knows what will be waiting at the wishing tree! Little ones will have the opportunity to peg their Christmas wish to the tree and sprinkle Reindeer dust to pave the way for Rudolph and the gang.
Grab a hot choc and marshmallow and join the Pegs with fireside immersive Christmas storytelling, or take a stroll around Christmas artisan stalls including How Brave is The Wren Caravan library, Ren & Stitchy handmade children’s clothing and Albion Bakehouse cakes and sweet treats; there’ll be plenty of opportunities to pick up last minute stocking fillers.
The chefs at Constellations have been stoking the fires in their brand spanking new kitchen to provide wholesome home-cooked food for the day. And for those who’ve still got room, there’ll be a cool milkshake bar. Mums and dads you haven’t been forgotten about – warm your cockles with a glass of spiced mulled wine and breathe a sigh of relief that the kids are truly catered for.
Square Pegs’ FESTIVal: it’ll be an experience that will deliver so much more than Father Christmas can fit in his sack.
