The magic sphere of The New Herulians was recently discovered on Earth. It was sent by the inhabitants of a nearby galaxy where it was used to detect their emotional status. With just a touch of a finger, the orb is able to download the thoughts, sensations and desires of its user.
Originally known as the ‘Magic Sphere of Helios’, the orb was created in the ancient city of Athens, valued for its spiritual powers. The New Herulians have sent it back to its place of origin to learn about life on Earth.
The New Herulians are looking for volunteers from Earth to embark on a psycho-geographical journey across space and time. Through this participatory experience, the magical sphere will create a reading of your emotional status, and gain power as you share the details of your location. In return, the orb will leave you with a reading of your emotions, and a lifetime of good fortune.
What to Expect:
You are invited to participate in The New Herulians, an interactive auditory experience guiding participants through a meditative psycho-geographical journey. Through an online link, participants will listen to a sci-fi narrative — a parody of the technological world we live in, created by Marcos Lutyens in partnership with Cognitive Sensations. Through a process of emotion recording and location tracking, participants are encouraged to reflect upon the changing nature of space and place during lockdown.
Through your participation, you will contribute to an emotional mapping of your city, home, or nearby location, creating a perceptual reading of the planet.
About the Artist:
Marcos Lutyens’s practice centers on the investigation of consciousness to engage the visitor’s embodied experience of art. Exhibitions of infinite scale and nature have been installed in the minds of visitors. Investigations have included consciousness research with social groups such as the third-gender Muxhe, Raeilians, synaesthetes, border migrants, space engineers and mental architects to explore how unconscious mind-sets shift across cultures and backgrounds. Lutyens has extended these consciousness projects to involve our external surroundings. Works include interactions with pedestrian flows, social media dialogue, air quality levels, animal and biological intercommunication.
