Talking Poetry gatherings provide a monthly opportunity to listen to and discuss poetry recordings on vinyl, audiotape, CD and downloads.

There is an eclectic mix of poets reading their own work, poets reading other poet’s work, actors reading well-known poems, poetry set to music and poems read in translation. From scratchy waxings made at the birth of recording technology, to downloads of recent recordings, the focus of Talking Poetry is on the listening experience, and discussing what we have heard in the intimate setting of the Bluecoat library.

There is a wide range of poetry represented from the past 100+ years, including classics from W.B. Yeats, TS Eliot and Sylvia Plath to more distinctive, contemporary voices such as Marilyn Hacker and Paul Muldoon.

The sessions are open to all and you do not need to have any expert knowledge, just an interest in poetry and the human voice, so please join us to listen to some of the greatest poetic voices.

This season, Talking Poetry will occur on the following dates:

Tue 18 Dec / 6pm – 8pm

Tue 15 Jan / 6pm – 8pm

Tue 19 Feb / 6pm – 8pm

Free, booking required.
