Times: 11:30 - 17:00
Learn how to do wet feltmaking and develop your skills with textiles. Perfect for the complete beginner or those more advanced who want to have a day of festive creativity using textiles.Sunday 15th December, 11:30am – 5pm.
During this day workshop, Catherine will guide you through 2 feltmaking projects. A wall art piece 30cm x 30cm with hand stitch to decorate your home at Christmas or as a beautiful hand made gift. Felt flower decorations – a hair pin, brooch, decoration for a tree or parcel. In both projects, you will learn the ancient Scandinavian skill of wet felt-making. A magically creative process, merino wool and mulberry silk fibres are arranged carefully into a design before water and olive soap are applied to the surface.
Friction from your hands alone with transform the fibres into a textile which has a uniquely organic look and feel. Catherine will show you basic hand embroidery to decorate your artwork before helping you assemble to a frame (embellishment can be stuck down for anyone not so keen on stitch). The second project will be 3D felt as Catherine guides you through the process of making a flower shaped decoration – a Christmas rose! Beautiful as a gift – you can choose to add a hair pin clip, a brooch back or hang from a Christmas tree or wreath. Time permitting, a series of flowers can be made. A ‘how to’ notes handout is included along with references for suppliers and resources.
