statement:
My paintings are observations of colour and light, using paint applied in relatively small brushstrokes over multiple layers. I attempt to depict figurative subjects which embrace more abstract qualities at close quarters.

Much of my painting technique is based on the colour theories of the Post-Impressionists. Like the Impressionists, my chief concerns are related to the effects of light. Unlike the Impressionists, I prefer to work from photographs. The simpler, more uncluttered the composition the better.

Most of my current work is painted in oils on canvas. When producing commissions to tight deadlines, such as illustration work (in which I trained), I paint in acrylics.

I am based in the Wirral, where I grew up. My work has been heavily influenced by the twelve years I spent in Cornwall. I have held 2 solo exhibitions in Liverpool and taken part in numerous group shows. I am a member of Wirral Society of Arts.
