Liverpool Author Shaun Millea’s Heartfelt Tale of Hillsborough Tragedy Takes Center Stage
Shaun Millea, children’s author and advocate, brings his poignant story of the Hillsborough disaster to life in an emotionally charged theatrical production. Adapted from his acclaimed children’s book, “Hillsborough When Will Dad Be Home?” the play offers a gripping portrayal of resilience and remembrance.

Millea’s journey began in 2019 with the release of his book, aimed at educating children across the UK about the tragic events of Hillsborough. Now, in collaboration with a dedicated creative team, Millea’s narrative takes the stage at the Capstone Theatre on April 11th and 12th, offering audiences an immersive experience into the harrowing aftermath of the fateful day in 1989.

Produced by Kevin Roach and directed by Zara Marie Brown, the production promises to be an evening of thought-provoking storytelling. Through the eyes of fictional character Frankie and his family, audiences will witness a touching exploration of grief, acceptance, and hope.

“I’ve always believed in the power of storytelling to evoke empathy and understanding,” says Millea. “Through this play, we aim to ensure that the memory of Hillsborough lives on, and that its lessons are never forgotten.”

In addition to providing entertainment, the production serves as a platform for education. All proceeds from merchandise and ticket sales will support the ‘Hillsborough Educational Campaign,’ an initiative dedicated to distributing Millea’s book to schools across the nation.

Featuring a talented cast of local Liverpool actors including Joel Cousins, Lucy Warering, Mike Sanders, Deborah Elizabeth, Don Danks, Leah Cloud, and Kevin Cubbin, the production resonates with authenticity and heart.

Director Zara Marie Brown shares her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Hillsborough is a pivotal moment in Liverpool’s history, and we are honored to bring this story to the stage. It’s about more than a tragic event; it’s about the strength of family and community in the face of adversity.”

Don’t miss this unforgettable theatrical experience. Join us at the Capstone Theatre on April 11th and 12th for an evening of reflection, emotion, and solidarity.
