‘Offering’ brings together the work of Catherine Rogers and Maja Lorkowska-Callaghan, in the beautiful setting of Penny Lane Church.
The collage-based exhibition showcases the possibilities of this often overlooked medium. Both artists aim to elevate collage in their practice, using it as the main method for many of the final pieces on display.

The beauty of collage lies in its intuitiveness and openness to
chance, while the concept of disparate elements being connected goes beyond traditional paper collage too – the exhibition also includes cyanotype, installation, video and textiles using traditional and punch needle embroidery. Nature is a leading motif for many of the works in the exhibition, with water in particular highlighted as nature’s most generous offering to all living beings. Its translucent, jewel-like properties are celebrated and combined with water’s many metaphorical meanings and
symbolism.

The exhibition is a celebration of the artists’ commitment to making art and creating a space for it in their lives. Most importantly ‘Offering’ is a way to reach out to viewers by providing a form of connection through art, one that doesn’t require any prior preparation. Catherine and Maja both strongly believe that art should be present in everyone’s lives regardless of the form it takes. ‘Offering’ removes the conceptual barriers so often present when we encounter contemporary art and encourages experiencing the work in a way that is personal to the viewer. There is no right or wrong, and no one way to understand or feel the work.
