SUMMARY:: Penny Lane Church: Offering
DESCRIPTION:This event takes place at Penny Lane Church\, Smithdown Pl\, Li
 verpool L18 1LZ.\n\nPrivate view: 12 October 2023\, 6pm-9pm\n\nOpen: 10am-
4pm on the 13 and 14 October. There will be children's activities related
to the exhibition taking place on Saturday 14 October. No booking necessar
y\, just turn up and enjoy!\n\n‘Offering’ brings together the work of
Catherine Rogers and Maja Lorkowska-Callaghan\, in the beautiful setting o
f Penny Lane Church.\nThe collage-based exhibition showcases the possibili
ties of this often overlooked medium. Both artists aim to elevate collage
in their practice\, using it as the main method for many of the final piec
es on display.\n\nThe beauty of collage lies in its intuitiveness and open
ness to\nchance\, while the concept of disparate elements being connected
goes beyond traditional paper collage too - the exhibition also includes c
yanotype\, installation\, video and textiles using traditional and punch n
eedle embroidery. Nature is a leading motif for many of the works in the e
xhibition\, with water in particular highlighted as nature's most generous
offering to all living beings. Its translucent\, jewel-like properties ar
e celebrated and combined with water's many metaphorical meanings and\nsym
bolism.\n\nThe exhibition is a celebration of the artists' commitment to m
aking art and creating a space for it in their lives. Most importantly 'Of
fering' is a way to reach out to viewers by providing a form of connection
through art\, one that doesn't require any prior preparation. Catherine a
nd Maja both strongly believe that art should be present in everyone's liv
es regardless of the form it takes. 'Offering' removes the conceptual barr
iers so often present when we encounter contemporary art and encourages ex
periencing the work in a way that is personal to the viewer. There is no r
ight or wrong\, and no one way to understand or feel the work.
