Gallery Volunteer Opportunities, Kirkby Gallery

We are looking for volunteers to support us with invigilating our exhibitions in Kirkby Gallery. We need people to greet and welcome visitors to the space, to help ensure that visitors follow our exhibition guidelines, to introduce them to some of the wider cultural offers across the borough and to support the staff with light tasks and desktop duties at quieter times.

We are looking for friendly, outgoing people who possess an alert and attentive attitude when dealing with the public. An interest in art, culture and local history is welcomed. We need people who are reliable and can make a commitment to one either half or full day each week.

Our volunteers benefit from being part of a supportive and friendly family of like-minded people. They gain free access to a broad range of arts and craft activities that take place throughout the year and are invited on at least two annual trips to other cultural venues. They can attend all of our private views and VIP events and will be given a free copy of any exhibition catalogues.

Here is what some of our volunteers have to say about their experience….

‘I initially volunteered as I have an interest in art and had taken partial retirement. I needed to keep up social contact, be with people, as I live alone and volunteering would counteract loneliness. I feel the benefits of volunteering with the permanent team and other volunteers is immeasurable.
Being a volunteer has reignited my love of arts and crafts and expanded my knowledge in this area by attending the classes and workshops.’

‘Volunteering at the gallery allows me to learn all about what goes on behind the exhibitions and all about the artists showing their work’

‘I enjoy working with people from many different backgrounds and of different ages, and having interesting conversations with other volunteers, staff and members of the public.’

‘During my time at Kirkby Gallery I have had the opportunity to progress professionally. In addition to this, my time at the gallery has improved my wellbeing.’

Kirkby Gallery is one of the best contemporary art galleries in Merseyside and the North West of England. The gallery presents a broad and ambitious programme of exhibitions, which draws upon collections from the Arts Council Collection, Hayward Touring, National Trust and multiple regional partner and galleries.
