The Hatch Gallery | Open Call | January 2026

About the Exhibition

Following the success of SeenUnseen and Pitch me I’m Dreaming, The Hatch is proud to announce our third public art call: Everyone Deserves Art.

This exhibition was born from a powerful moment at our last show. A visitor fell in love with a piece that had already sold. Speaking unknowingly to the artist herself, she shared how the price had been just beyond her reach—and now regretted never having the chance to own it. Moved by this encounter, the artist created a small work as a gift, accompanied by a card with three simple words: “Everyone Deserves Art”.

Those words became our mission.

January is a challenging month. Finances are stretched, budgets depleted. But the need for beauty, connection, and meaning doesn’t pause. This exhibition asks: What if great art were accessible to everyone?

The Brief

We’re inviting artists to create work that embodies the belief that art should be within reach—not just physically, but financially.

The only rule: Every piece must be priced at £250 or under.

This isn’t about compromising your practice or undervaluing your work. It’s about exploring what becomes possible when we remove barriers. Small works. Editions. Experiments. New mediums. Whatever speaks to you—and to someone who deserves to bring art into their life.

Who Can Apply

This call is open to all artists working in any medium: painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, textile, digital, mixed media, and beyond. Emerging and established artists are equally welcome.

Why This Matters

Art shouldn’t be a luxury reserved for those who can afford it. It’s a necessity—a source of comfort, joy, reflection, and hope. Especially in January, when the world feels a little darker, colder, harder.

Let’s fill The Hatch with work that says: You belong here. This is for you. Everyone deserves art.

We can’t wait to see what you create.

In memory of a conversation between two strangers, and the gift that followed.
