Cheshire East Council has allocated UK Shared Prosperity Funding (UKSPF) to significantly improve the market under the ‘Macclesfield Indoor Market Refurbishment’ (MIMR) scheme.
The aim is that Macclesfield Market will become the home of independent retail, a food and produce hub and an important business incubator for local entrepreneurs.
MIMR will re-energise the market with a suite of high impact visual enhancements to create a welcoming market, increasing footfall and dwell time that supports the vitality and viability of the town centre.
MIMR will make the market a ‘go-to destination’ for visitors to Macclesfield with a focus on local, independent traders and sustainability which must be completed by the end of March 2025.
To complement the rebranding and physical upgrade of the indoor market,
the Council is seeking to also commission a number of artworks, to both highlight the existence of the market, which is in a somewhat hidden location, and to tie in with the aspiration for the market to be a unique, quirky destination.
