Family Arts Club Artist Brief.  Family Arts Club is a project funded by the Arts in Libraries Team through Arts Council England that will take place at Moss Bank Library in St. Helens each Tuesday from 3pm to 5pm, with occasional school holiday/Saturday morning sessions. The artist will work together with our partner agencies, volunteers(s) and Library staff to create a Family Art Club programme that will be attractive to refugee families taking part, will be suitable for a library space and will provide a safe and inclusive place where families can play creatively together. The artist will be supported by worker from an agency currently supporting refugee families in the area and will be required to attend Trauma Informed Practice training before sessions start. We are looking for an artist or artist collective who:

  • Can deliver fun, playful arts sessions that will engage a whole family
  • Has an awareness of how the sessions could support ESOL learning
  • Can create a programme of activity with an awareness of issues that can affect refugee families. Has experience of working in situations where confidentiality and sensitivity may be required and have some awareness of safeguarding principles.
  • Can engage with the library staff to make the sessions relevant to the library’s aims.
  • We are particularly interested in hearing from artists who may themselves have lived experience of the asylum system or are international artists.
