The opportunity:
Reignite the spirit of Runcorn’s history and community through vibrant street art! As part of the ambitious ‘Reconnecting Runcorn’ project, funded by the UK Government, we are thrilled to announce an open call for public street artists from the Northwest UK region to transform the first (of possibly more) viaduct pillars from the Silver Jubilee Bridge.
Join us in transforming Runcorn’s landscape into a vibrant canvas of storytelling and community pride. Register your interest to be part of the artwork shaping our town. Let’s reconnect through art!
The Location:
The ‘canvas’ for the delivery of a work of art (mural) is a viaduct pillar below the Silver Jubilee bridge approach in Dukesfield, Runcorn.
The Subject:
Artists must choose one story from the booklet “Stories from Dukesfield” by Hazlehurst Studios, with illustrations from Millie Chesters based on stories selected by the Runcorn & District Historical Society. This booklet displays a diverse tapestry of Runcorn’s stories, serving as inspiration for artists. You can download the booklet on

The Commission:
The Local Authority is looking to commission an artist to deliver a piece of public art. The budget for the commission is no more than £10,000, including labour costs as well as costs for material, equipment and any costs associated with health and safety, and security.
You must provide a breakdown of costs in your fee proposal.
The Local Authority will place a purchase order with the successful artist to deliver the piece of public art as proposed.
Submission will be evaluated 70% on quality and 30% on price.
The Local Authority may decide to commission more than one pillar/artist at the end of this procurement process by making more budget available.
