Artist Open Call, Burnley Year of Culture 2027

Culture Burnley invites artists of all backgrounds to connect with us ahead of Burnley 2027 Year of Culture. Artists will be attached to future commissions and programme opportunities, ranging from community projects to large-scale works, that enhance Burnley’s creativity and diversity.

Burnley Leisure & Culture is building a new network of artists and creative practitioners to help shape and deliver projects in the lead up to Burnley 2027 Year of Culture. We are inviting expressions of interest from artists of all backgrounds, working in any art-form or practice.

This is a non-specific call out for us to expand our cultural offer in Burnley and grow a database of creative practitioners. We want to hear from you if you are interested in being considered for future opportunities and commissions. Over the next two years, we will be offering a range of commissions across Burnley and Padiham – from community-led cultural projects to larger commissions as part of Burnley 2027 Year of Culture.

Artists on our database will be the first to hear about these opportunities and invited to apply for upcoming work. We will work with partner organisations to support wider commissioning opportunities for artists across the borough with work taking place this year, in 2026 and in Burnley 2027 Year of Culture.

We welcome:

  • Artists at any stage in their career – emerging, mid-career, or established
  • Practitioners working in any art-form, or across multiple/mixed forms
  • Artists with a technical background or who identify as creative technologists
  • Creatives with experience in participatory practice, community engagement, or place-based work
  • Artists from underrepresented backgrounds that reflect Burnley’s diverse communities

Deadline: 7th October 2025

Interviews: Evening of 16th or 21st October 2025

Please submit an expression of interest including:
Your CV, A short statement or video clip introducing your practice. Some examples of recent work (images, video links, or documents) and your contact details.

Please email your CV and links to your work to – jbamber@blcgroup.co.uk
