Abandon Normal Devices – More Details Announced

A new partnership formed of FACT (Liverpool), Cornerhouse (Manchester) and folly (Lancaster) has been awarded major funding from the Legacy Trust UK to deliver Abandon Normal Devices (AND), a new cross-regional festival of New Cinema and Digital Culture for WE PLAY – the Northwest’s cultural legacy programme for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

The announcement that AND will be one of the key beneficiaries of the major Legacy Trust UK funding was made today at the Manchester Velodrome.

Abandon Normal Devices (AND) will receive £200,000 from the Legacy Trust UK for each of the four years running up to the Olympic Games (a total of £800,000).

AND has also secured major funding from Liverpool City Council, North West Development Agency, Northwest Vision and Media and Arts Council England.

Taylor Nuttall, Chief Executive of folly, on funding:
“To be one of only three projects awarded this significant and prestigious piece of funding is absolutely fantastic. We are really proud that the Legacy Trust UK is putting faith in us to create a ground-breaking cross-regional event.”

Mike Stubbs, Director/CEO of FACT, on the regional spread:
“Having the opportunity to work across the region, which is vast, but with some really key partners in a meaningful way on a new project is fantastic.”

Dave Moutrey, Director & Chief Executive of Cornerhouse, on the legacy for Northwest:
“AND will have a positive and lasting impact on and across the region by supporting talented filmmakers based here, presenting the region to the film world as somewhere that has creativity in its DNA, and bringing in visitors.”

Kate Taylor, AND Festival Director, on the programme for AND:
“Abandon Normal Devices is an excellent opportunity to re-imagine a festival from scratch. The plan is to champion provocative artists, filmmakers and concepts, engage audiences in intense discussion and host a cracking social event.”
