The film will be premiered during the launch of the George Garrett Archive at Liverpool’s Central Library, William Brown Street.
Liverpool born comedian, writer and broadcaster, Alexiei Sayle, narrates a unique film charting the life and work of Liverpool merchant Seaman, social activist and writer, George Garrett (1896-1966).
The Film, George Garrett – A Stoker with Punch, has been created by local film makers Chris Chadwick and Wesley Storey of The Hatch TV Production Company, for Writing on the Wall’s Heritage Lottery Funded George Garrett Archive project. Liverpool actor Paul Duckworth (12th Night, Waiting for Brando, Brookside, Backbeat) has recorded the voice over of George Garrett’s voice, and the film features a series of interviews with writers, academics and family, including exclusive interviews with George Garrett’s two remaining sons, Roy and Derek.
Project Leader, Mike Morris, says, ‘Alexei Sayle’s involvement in the film provides a living link to George Garrett as his mother and father, Molly and Joe, were good friends of George Garrett. It was Alexei referring to this in his autobiography, Stalin Ate My Homework’, that prompted me to get in touch with him. He was a pleasure to work with and gave his time for free.’
The launch of the archive and film are part of a series of celebration events taking place during the Writing on the Wall festival.
