World Museum: Prints in counterpoint

13 November 2014 – 31 October 2015

A vibrant and colourful display of sixteen lino prints by the Ghanaian artist Atta Kwami. Kwami is an artist, scholar and curator based in Ghana and the UK.

He was inspired to create the prints after spending three days in Liverpool sketching African artworks in the World Cultures Gallery and at the museum store.

His brilliantly conceived prints were made by reworking his sketches in lino and printing them with rhythmic over- and under-layerings of colour.

Kwami has a deep understanding of Ghanaian traditions of design and visual creativity but he is also interested in urban scenes and forms.

The display can be found in the Africa section of the World Cultures Gallery on the third floor at World Museum.

‘Prints in Counterpoint’ was printed by Pamela Clarkson and Atta Kwami in 2014.
