Joyce’s War is the recently published wartime journal of Joyce Thomas (née Parry) who lived in Oxton in the last six years of her life. Joyce was an Australian nurse who came to the UK in 1937 to find her roots in Wales and Liverpool. On the outbreak of war she signed up as a Queen Alexandra nurse working as a Sister on hospital ships, in India and the Middle East. The talk by Joyce’s daughter, Rhiannon Evans who is the editor of the book, will be illustrated with photographs and illustrations as well as with images by war artists, including the local artist, Albert Richards.

Joyce’s War: The Second World War Journal of a Queen Alexandria Nurse, by Joyce Ffoulkes Parry, edited by Rhiannon Evans and illustrated by Siân Bailey. Published by the History Press in the series Voices from History, 2015. Copies will be available at the talk.
