Throughout the ground floor of 8-12 Abercromby Square, the HLC gallery hosts varied and sometimes challenging work by local artists. The exhibition changes on a semesterly basis, with topical and recurring themes threaded through the various works on display.

Helen Esdaile: Portraiture- inspired by the photo collages of David Hockney taking a series of photograph, drawing the image then merging several together to show how a person moves and changes facial expression, and how we are all a mix of different feelings and emotions.

Shaun Lowndes:Â Shaun Lowndes lives and works In Manchester his last series of prints: WE ARE ALL LOOKING, relate to the Soviet Images made during the years of the proletariate revolution or the new woodcut movement of 1930’s and 40’s. The overarching theme of his latest body of work is an autobiographical peek into the male condition in all it’s unbridled, neurotic glory. He sees the main purpose of his new work as providing the function of posters, preferably to be hung frameless with blue tac and on wood chipped walls. The figures in them are like long lost, defunct heart throbs from a dystopian world perhaps; all male, all child like, all misguided and all fatally heroic.
Jordan Rodgers: Charcoal & Pen and Ink Drawings- cross disciplinary drawing involving architectural visualisation reminiscent of cubist and futurist
