Patrick Murphy’s ‘Belonging’ responds to the Biennial’s notion of the uninvited guest.
Banished from city centres and branded a nuisance, pigeons will become a familiar sight at the Walker Art Gallery during the Biennial, when around 150 of the brightly coloured guests will adorn the exterior of the gallery.
The imposing Victorian architecture of the Walker Art Gallery and William Brown Street receives the unexpected presence of brightly coloured birds; the scale, colour and quantity make the whole situation at once familiar but also both surreal and unusual.
