The Royal Standard: Song Writing Workshop – Mikey Georgeson

7 July 2012

11:30 – 15:30

To accompany Mikey Georgeson’s Trope exhibition, the artist will be running a ‘Backwerdz Causality Songwriting Workshop’ at The Royal Standard as part of our Dialogues programme.

Originally developed with Trevor Giles as part of Critical Practice supported by Chelsea College of Art & Design This version of the workshop will be run by Mikey for those who:

  1. have ever wondered why they can never remember where your their ideas came from
  2. have ever had a hunch that singing their thoughts might lead somewhere new.
  3. have asked themselves why you have no obsessions but suspect they do and that they are just quiet ones.
  4. have sensed there was another gear to their creative engine couldn’t find the position for.

Participants will gently explore the voice as translator of ideas. Generate and vocalise lyrics. Write a song. Examine creativity on demand.

Why do this? to have fun and to experience the joy of co-joined melody and word. It is also to expand creative strategies through collaboration and access to physical thinking. There are also the benefits of taking on small challenges and possible failures experienced within a supportive group.

“The greatest friend of the soul is the unknown. Yet we are afraid of the unknown because it lies outside our vision and our control. We avoid it or quell it by filtering it through our protective barriers of domestication and control.” John O’Donohue

“the creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct” Carl G. Jung
