FORGOTTEN CULTURE: A photographic documentation of one of the most stunning villages set in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus. The exhibition showcases the story of the local people and the life they live. It will embrace a powerful reflection of the village lifestyle and its close community, drawing inspiration from photographer Steve McCurry, in terms of the portraits of the local people in contrast with photographs of the colourful and traditional setting. The locals of Lefkara village tend to embrace their peaceful and traditional way of life; living in their small courtyard houses and making their renowned hand made lace and silver.

As part of her final postgraduate study and after visiting the island on numerous occasions, photographer Sophia H. Avraam presents an in depth photographic documentation of the traditional Greek Cypriot culture that has almost been forgotten as the modern and contemporary world evolves. Sophia sets the scene of the Cypriot lifestyles and traditions through powerful portraits and colourful scenery. The purpose is to re-create ‘Forgotten Culture’ to a modern society by presenting them with the beauty of a traditional culture that most of us may believe to have become extinct; it is proof that global diversity still exists…
