Viewing:Â Saturday 13 August 13.30 – 15.30
Madelainartz would like to invite you to meet a remarkable artist and see his exhibition at his private view: Abstracts of Iceland on Saturday 13th August from 1.30pm – 3.30pm with Live Entertainment from Kalika.
Steve Barrett was born in Bridport, Dorset. He came to Liverpool as a student and studied at S. Katharine’s Teacher Training College. He taught Mathematics in Crosby for 35 years, before taking early retirement in order to pursue his interest in art. He completed an Art Foundation Course at Southport College and then studied at Liverpool John Moores University, graduating in 2010 with a degree in Fine Art.
He is now based in Arena Studios on Parliament Street in Liverpool.
‘Abstracts of Iceland’ are a group of paintings based upon a trip to Iceland, in the summer of 2010, with the Liverpool Geological Society. He found the landscape of Iceland truly spectacular and awe inspiring. It made him think of how insignificant and fragile we are compared with the power of nature. In Kant’s term, it was sublime.
Each painting is inspired by an image seen during the trip. His starting points are the shapes, colours and textures of the landscape but then, as he tries to incorporate his feelings and emotions, the painting moves away from reality and takes on a life of its own as a painterly abstract.
Exhibition Dates:
14th – 27th August from 12.30pm – 5pm, Weds – Saturdays.
