The broad sweep of a landscape or coastline and the fleeting effects of light on colour impacts strongly on my work. I endeavour to capture this using the visual and highly tactile nature of natural materials to present the viewer with a connection to the spectacular landscape found within and around the British Isles.

This body of work, ‘Light and Land’, draws on the moorland and coastal areas around Britain and emphasizes the consequences of varying light. The shift between bright and overcast skies impacts on the choice of colour, composition, and textural materials selected to create an atmosphere reflecting the landscape before me.

Working initially in sketchpads, I set out to record the untamed landscape with initial drawings and colour references on site, then developing the work back at my studio using British and Norwegian pure wools, flax, linen and silks.
