A new collaborative artwork by Jonathan Raisin (UK) and Ehsan Vaziri (Iran) for Festival 31  appearing at Rotunda and St. Luke’s Church.

The Leaving is an intimate, immersive installation. An almost life-size boat, just big enough to sit inside, containing an audio soundwork- a spoken word narrative with music and soundscape.

A home-made boat built from pallets and hope and a song of the Sea. Stories- told and imagined, of a river to carry us to safety and the hope of welcome on another shore. What if the town that we think of as home became broken? Where might we go?

The Leaving is a personal and poetic response to very current questions about migration and the refugee experience created as a part of the Festival 31 Artists’ Commission programme.

Other work by commissioned festival artists can also be seen at both venues.
