To kick off the Festival we are delighted to be showing a film which explores the power of film and of community action. We will be joined by several guest speakers to discuss this and other grassroots cinema projects.

The Cube Bristol, is a non-profit, volunteer run cinema, progressive social space and one of the last vestiges of radicalism in an increasingly neo-liberalised city landscape. Faced with losing their lease, Cube staff ran a 15 month campaign to raise the £185,000 required to keep the building, a seemingly impossible feat. Featuring artists such as Beardyman and Portishead, this 70-minute film comprised of one-minute contributions is a labyrinthine journey of light and sound capturing the essence of the deeply loved cinema; an artistic capsule and an extraordinary rendition of what the Cube is all about.
