How does one classify an archive? Will the passage of time make photographs more useful as historical documents and less important as art? How does nostalgia affect work that was once contemporary? Stephen McCoy answers these questions and many more at Open Eye Gallery’s free artist talk: Archive and Collaboration.

Focussing on the reinvigoration of photographic archives through digital techniques, we explore everything archive from collaboration and the repair of negatives to image storage and dissemination.

McCoy’s personal practice focuses on the documentary of environmental issues with a strong emphasis on location.  Previously having worked in education teaching photography, McCoy now works on personal projects in collaboration with Stephanie Wynne and also as one half of the well-established Liverpool-based commercial photography venture McCoy Wynne.

Alongside his work published independently through Cafe Royal Books, McCoy’s Housing Estates 1979-81 series is also held in Open Eye Gallery’s archive subsequent to its display inUrban Landscapes (1981).
