A series of rarely seen prints by JMW Turner, on loan to Knowsley Council from Manchester Metropolitan University Special Collections.
Joseph Mallord William Turner is perhaps the best-loved English Romantic artist. He became known as ‘the painter of light’, because of his increasing interest in brilliant colours as the main constituent in his landscapes and seascapes.
This exhibition gives a fascinating insight into the inspiration behind his imagery, his travels and his lesser known print based work.
Complimenting the Turner prints, is a series of work by other artists who have been inspired by Turner:
‘Collaboration – Turner’s Travels’
A collaborative project by Pete Clarke, Liverpool & Georg Gartz, Cologne, Germany.
‘Local landscapes’
Landscape photographs taken in and around Knowsley by local photographer Ian Hewitt. Ian also has an exhibition of his work on the
mezzanine.
‘Local artists’
A collection of work created for this exhibition by individual local Knowsley artists, using Turner work as inspiration.
