2014 marks 100 years since the start of the First World War. As part of the national centenary we are joining in with the events commemorating this epic period with a fascinating new exhibition, ‘Local Heroes, Distant Voices’.
The exhibition presents the fascinating stories of individual soldiers, and we have so many to tell that they wouldn’t all fit into one venue! The exhibition will open simultaneously in Kirkby Gallery and Prescot Museum.
The exhibition tells the personal stories of Knowsley servicemen, women and individuals affected by war from the late 19th Century onward, covering military conflicts up to present day. Taking centre stage in the exhibition will be the presentation of ‘Local Heroes’ from Knowsley, alongside a wealth of interesting historical and contextual information: learn more about the area’s military connections, add your own stories and bring the distant voices of your ancestors back for all to hear.
