A collection of recent paintings by Paul Mellor, (2010 – 2014).

Paul Mellor studied fine art painting at Wimbledon School of Art in the 1970s. After graduation he continued to paint for several years, subsidised by work on building sites. Appointed as lecturer at Ealing college of Art he began to develop his work through the mediums of lithography, etching, photography and silkscreen printing. When the department closed in the late eighties he moved to London Video Arts in Soho and began to produce work in super8 film and video. He has continued working in the arts (galleries and higher education) to the present day.

He returned to painting in 2010. This recent work is informed by his lifelong passion for historical and contemporary fine art and primarily painting. The work references, both obliquely and directly, particular artists (sometimes individual works), some of whom have been an influence since he was an art student and others picked up along the way. These include, amongst others, Giotto, Fra Angelica, Masaccio, Piero della Francesca, Velazquez, Munch, Hopper, Bacon, Richter, Doig and Kiefer as well as auteur filmmakers such as Visconti, Herzog, Pasolini, Wenders and Tarkovsky.
