St Luke’s Church (Hoylake)
The concert will feature the premiere of ‘Mersey Sound’, Rachel’s own Merseyside-inspired soundscape for live ensemble and recorded sounds, using sounds of the region including the river, voices, transport, and music. This will be preceded by short works by local emerging composers Daniel Thorne, Mark Jones, William Marshall, Richard Harding and Joe Hillyard, alongside pieces by Howard Skempton, which will be played not only by the ensemble, but also by the man himself.
As well as championing the homegrown talent the region has to offer, Rachel hopes this exciting programme will be accessible to all, and bring contemporary music to new audiences who may not have encountered it before. Rachel has not been involved in the festival before, so organisers are hoping for a big Hoylake ‘welcome’ for this Festival of Firsts ‘newbie!’
