Young DaDaFest will be taking over the Everyman Theatre showcasing ten acts and 100 performers aged 12-25.
This year’s event includes performances from a variety of individuals and groups, and was entirely planned, programmed and organised by young people. This is the first time it has been held at the Everyman, a symbol of adventurous theatre and well known for launching the careers of many leading actors.
The Young DaDaFest Leadership groups have been planning the event since autumn 2013, with tasks including selecting the acts from an open submission, agreeing the running order and timings, ticket policy, printed program design and the format of the event. By leading on all decision making, the young people have their views heard and valued, which in turn enables them to establish their own style and voice. The performances themselves were selected according to their quality, enthusiasm and the amount of input the young people have had in devising them.
Performance highlights include a comedy sketch by RAWD exploring summer days and the fun that can be had when a group of friends come together, poetry from Katie and contemporary dance from the LIKEU Dance Company from Creative Youth Development exploring their skills and how they work together. Sandfield Park school are taking part with a musical extravaganza based on the song ‘Happy’ and the Acting Up group have produced a music video about themselves incorporating Makaton and dance.
In addition to this, there will be performances resulting from Young DaDa workshops in dance and acting with YEP (Young Everyman Playhouse) and singing workshops with Sense of Sound, again directed by the young people.
