Enigma – Cemmick and Wylder Fine Art Bronzes

From 1 March 2009

Fine art bronze sculptors, Cemmick and Wylder, have chosen Enigma Gallery One of Bebington, Wirral to become their exclusive outlet in Merseyside and Cheshire.   Although they are well known for their large bronzes, the collection at Enigma is a more intimate selection of their work, featuring owls, hares, a fox, a wild boar and a grumpy old toad.

A passionate wildlife observer and conservationist, David Cemmick spent over 30 years sketching animals in their natural habitat which, when put together with his training as a taxidermist, explains the incredible attention to detail in their work and their ability to capture the animals as seen in the wild.

Sebastian Wylder transforms Cemmick’s sculptures into the bronzes using lost wax casting.  For this process, a rubber mould is made of the original sculpture, which is then filled with wax.  A ceramic shell is put around the wax version and put in the autoclave.  The wax melts (thus the name of this process) and molten bronze can be poured into the space left behind.  The ceramic mould is chipped away, leaving the bronze cast.

The artistry and skill of Cemmick and Wylder combine to result in wildlife bronze sculptures of superb delicacy and quality.  Their love of wildlife has led them to support the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi, which rescues and looks after baby elephants orphaned by the ivory trade, by donating a percentage from sales of their ‘Baby Eve’ elephant sculpture.  Their current commissions include a husky dog  which will stand outside the British Antartic Survey headquarters in Cambridge.

Cemmick & Wylders’ fine art bronzes are available from Enigma Gallery One in Bebington, Wirral, where commissions can also be arranged.  Enigma Gallery One specialises in selling fine art and providing a professional picture framing service.  It is open 10am – 5pm, Monday to Saturday with free parking at the front and round the back, off Kingsway.
