dot-art Showroom: Forgotten and Waiting: The Photography of Andrew G Fisher

unnamed27 January – 7 March 2014

12.00 – 18.00 Monday to Friday and by appointment

The new year sees the dot-art Showroom host a selection of large scale, hand printed, monochrome photographs by Andrew G Fisher; the culmination of several years work around two distinct themes: “Beside the Sea” and Forgotten Corners”.  These two projects seek to identify the relationship between time, place and people.

Andrew’s haunting, often stark black and white images explore the effect that time and absence has on the places with which we interact on an everyday basis. Here the artist discusses his inspirations:

“The passage of time has always fascinated me. Unchangeable and inevitable, an abstract concept which has confounding effects on every aspect of life. In winter, seaside resorts lie dormant and quiet: ghost towns haunted by nature. Only echoes of the vibrant summer past remain, bringing promise and hope for summers to come.  This cycle of change is explored in the “Beside the Seaside” project.”

“The concept behind ‘Forgotten Corners’ is the focus on places that were once untouched; unscathed. Places that have long since crumbled, been abandoned and left without identity. In time they will be erased and replaced: a rebirth which will inevitably fade again. These two projects seek to identify the relationship between time, place and people.  They represent several years of work and are being exhibited as a complete project here for the first time.”

This exhibition represents a small selection of work from each of these two projects, both of which comprise 50 images in total. All works are silver gelatin hand printed photographs on heavyweight fibre based paper. Photographs are professionally mounted to conservation and museum standards. Prints are available in two sizes: 46×46 cm, limited to an edition of 5 and 18x18cm, limited to an edition of 10.
