OPEN EVENING: Friday 26 February 2016, 19.00 – 21.00  -Free entry and refreshments, everyone welcome, live music.

Royal College of Art- trained artist Jardine was born in 1920 and lived in Wallasey until his death in 2002.

He was greatly influenced by the Surrealist movement of the 1930s, developing a unique style drawing on the female nude, natural creatures and landscapes to create a highly personal vision of the world.

A LECTURE: Friday 11 March 2016, 19.00
The King of the Birds: Surrealism & the work of George Jardine – A Lecture by Adrian Sumner.
This lecture examines the two extremes and the distance between them, looking at the superstars Surrealism gave us (Dali, Magritte, Max Ernst… you know the culprits) and the extraordinary way in which the new techniques (decalcomania, frottage, cadavres esquis, automatic painting etc) extended the palate of possibilities for all (including many British Surrealists).
We will also discover the work of Liverpool’s own surreal genius, George Jardine, to whom this lecture is dedicated, and the exhibition of whose work it accompanies.

A TOUR: Sunday 20 March 2016, 14.00
Colin Simpson, Curator at the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum, Birkenhead, knew George Jardine for over 20 years and organised his 80th birthday exhibition in 2000. Colin will lead a tour around the exhibition giving a brief history of the artist and exploring the varied and often fantastic elements that appear in his work. This tour will be on Sunday 20th March at 2pm.
