Made with volunteers from the Merseyside village of Hale, Whitby’s film tells the story of John Middleton, the famous 9 ft 3 giant known as ‘The Childe of Hale’, born there in 1578. Using improvised acting and DIY methods, the film explores the flexibility of this under-documented historical narrative and encompasses several versions of Middleton’s biography, as interpreted by people from the village.
