37SECONDS FOR THE LIVERPOOL BIENNIAL: PROGRAMME 16

RAN SLAVIN INSOMNIAC CITY
Friday 13 October – Thursday 19 October
Everyday at 10, 12, 14.30, 16.00 & 19.00

Big Screen Liverpool, Clayton Square, L1 1QR

Scheduled to coincide with Liverpool Biennial 06, 37Seconds sixteenth programme of contemporary moving image curated for The Big Screen Liverpool presents its first ever feature film, a one week only screening of Israeli artist Ran Slavin’s dystopian masterpiece Insomniac City.

The film is shown from the perspective of an insomniac as he tries to recall how he has come to be shot in an urban underground car park. Through a fragmented, non-linear stream of events that encompass day and night, Tel Aviv is spliced through the man’s chaotic perspective, drifting between the known reality and a hallucinatory one. Slavin’s stunning use of animation to interfere with the cities architecture creates a dreamlike tone, whilst the
futuristic photography and dark crime point to both science fiction and film noir, creating an innovative fusion of genres and styles.
