Families are being invited to come to the Cathedral this half term for interactive activities based on the theme of sound.
‘Sounding out the Cathedral’ allows visitors to make their way around the building and stop at a series of ten stations to take part in craft and reflective activities. Stations will include the ‘sound of creativity’, the ‘sound of silence’, ‘the sound of living water’, ‘the sound of conscience’, the ‘sound of your own voice’ and the ‘sound of hope.’ Through the trail, visitors can explore and learn about parts of the Cathedral including the Tracey Emin art work, the Lady Chapel and the war memorial.  What’s more, families can take advantage of a special offer – the children’s ‘Great Space’ audio tours free with every paying adult (£3).
‘Sounding out the Cathedral’ will take place between 14th-18th February (11.00-3.00pm) and 21st – 25th February (11.00-3.00pm) to coincide with Liverpool Discovers, a quirky and fun trail of outdoor art installations by some of the UK’s most exciting public artists.
From 14th February-20th March the Cathedral grounds will play host to an artwork on the theme ‘Sounding out Liverpool’ by Matthew Sansom. It will feature giant ‘sound mirrors’ that tempt viewers to listen to the city through the artwork, amplifying the continual flowing soundscape of the city and its inhabitants. The artwork invites you to entertain and play, bounce your own stories, jokes or poems off the sound mirror, or recite extracts from the films, books and entertainers of Liverpool, whose words are etched on the surrounding ground.
